looking for help, I'm trying to id a token? that is civil war era. I don't have photo ability so I will describe as best I can. Octogon in shape, silver, appox. 1 1/4 in. wide. One side has in script "African Labor Supply Association" 1861 Charleston, South Carolina 1/2 dollar. The opposite side has 2 pro slavery quotes. "The south must and will maintain the institution of slavery" and "Southern independence and slavery must stand or fall together" I have no idea where to begin research so any ideas or links will be appreciated. Will post pictures as soon as I can.

I doubt that you will find out much about that specific coin on the internet, as there were many thousands of different designs from different merchants, but you might try googling "store card" or "civil war token", or "scrip".... above are ebay links to similar items.
