Found this Spanish coin that was made in 1721 and 1722 for distribution to North American colonists in 1721. Spain originally produced about 585,000 of these coins and sent to colonies in Canada. Canadian French colonists rejected coins because they were copper and not silver or gold. They packed them up and sent them back to Spain! Some were then sent to French colonists in Louisiana. This is third known find in state. One of the other two had a hole through the middle and was possibly used as an ornament by local Caddo Indians. Not original picture as coin is now in conservation but in great shape. I'll post a second picture with obverse. Coin was found while researching possible civil war battle site that also had objects from early 18th century home site. Found
Half Dime on site from early 1800's but nothing as exciting as colonial coin!

Edit: Here's the obverse.
