1986 Nickel, Misprint? | Cud. - Coin Community Forum

Jhagan New Member United States 2 Posts	Posted 01/19/2011 09:50 am So I was going trough my change when I noticed a small imperfection, on the edge of this 1986 nickel. On examination it does not appear to be a damage to the coin, ie no scratch or indention where it might have been struck or melted in anyway. It looks, to me anyway, like a possible chip in the die. Just curious whether this is a known error/damage and if anything like this would be enough to effect the value of the coin. Moved to Modern US Errors forum - Sap Report this Post to the Staff

It is a collectible error and considerably rarer than a common die chip. Value would probably be $5-10 for a small one with the value going up for bigger ones. Report this Post to the Staff

You'll have to excuse me, I am still a novice at collecting, so some of these terms are still new to me. On a related note, yes I now realize that it is a Mis-Strike, not a mis-print. I also see that it doesn't have much impact on the value, but Ill hold on to it since its a pretty big and defined one. Thank you Bill for the tip! I tried to get a better pic, and enhance the relief so you can get an idea how big it is. But all I have in my cell cam, so its not getting much better.
