Hi from Seattle! I am a noobie but learning by reading the threads.

I bought a 2008 Red Book and have a question. (2010 on its way )
In the 2008 on page 117 small cents: I'll use 1950 as my example
1950...(51,386) mintage 272,635,000 then the prices

What is the number in parentheses? the 51,386. I've combed over my Red Book a few times trying to get an answer. nothing.

Sorry if this is basic but sometimes the doesn't alway pop on :)
Thanks! ChickenGirl in very rainy Seattle

First ... to the CCF family.

The number in parenthesis is the Proof mintage for that date/mm of coin ... as correctly sated above by jokingjoker.

For your specific example .... using my 2010 RedBook ... take a look at the prices ... you should see all the way at the end of the a listing for 'PF-65" ... this is the value for a proof coin graded PF-65.

My 2010 RedBook has your 1950 Lincoln with a circulation strike mintage of 272,635,00 ... a proof mintage of 51,386 and a value in PF-65 of $75.

These mintage figures should track exactly with what you are seeing and the value of PF-65 might be a few dollars off either way.
