Well I only intend to keep a single set of proofs and a single set of BU. The rest can be melted along with what has happened to most others I'm sure. I hope you guys keep melting them so my set is worth something one day :)

Went into scotia today; they send the coins back to the bank of canada, and credit your account when the BoC verifies the coin.

That is what they are supposed to do, if you can actually get them to do it. In practice they heavily discourage you from making the deposit.

Ah, well the folks at my local scotia were more than happy to take them, so long as I understood that it would be weeks before I got credit, not days.

So my dad got suckered into buying this specimen. It came with the most unsophisticated chart I've ever seen, i.e., the price of silver from Nov. 8, 2009-Nov.9, 2010. It's just an arrow pointing up and to the right at a 45 degree angle. Ludicrous, I say. I'd give it an MS-69 as there is a light graze on it.

These coins turned out to be more of an investment for me than anything else. I realized the 13 I ended up with were too many for me and tried to unload some off ebay. So far I've sold 7 for a profit. I plan on keeping 3-5 so I may be selling one more.

Anyone else surprised by how much people are paying for these?

I was definitely surprised of the interest and prices for the coin. I suppose the 20 for 20 was the biggest catch, although I have heard recently that alot of people are having issues with actually getting 20 dollars back for the coin, even at banks.

No problem taking it to a bank. Just explain you want them to send it to the BoC and credit your account when it comes back.

^ thanks rodime. Although to be honest, when the RCM came out with it, they made it seem ALOT easier to get $20 dollars for your $20 coin. i.e go to teller, give them coin, and walk out with a $20 bill. Dont' know why one would, but it seemed like that was the impression the RCM was giving with these guys.

Eitherway, I'm hanging on to mine :)

Probably a good idea to hold onto them. The secondary market has cooled down quite a bit for them - they're now selling for $25-$35 on ebay. After shipping, they're barely selling at a markup at all. Colonial acres is still selling them for $30/piece. I know I got rid of about 15 of them for $30/piece, and I'm happy holding onto a few for the collection ... but considering they're worth face value - it's like money in the bank.

I sent one off to be graded just for giggles but I haven't gotten it back yet. Then I'll run it up the flagpole on ebay as a rare high grade and ask 100,000 for it so everyone will laugh at me and review any genuine coins for sale. I have to get rid of some gold holed guineas anyhow.

Maybe I'll market it as "the first of a new currency in case of polymer bank note failure in extreme Canadian cold" or "rightsizing coins in preparation for monetary union with the US (ala the Amero)".

I can always AT one and claim they are so pure they turn colour in the mere presence of a human to start a new rumour. Maybe I'll call one "Fred" and try to spend him all over Canada and video the results for YouTube. "Excuse me, will you accept Fred in exchange for 20 dollars worth of gasoline/hamburgers/loaves of bread?". I can spend hours trying to stuff Fred into a pop machine coin slot and ask every passer by for assistance.

Lots of other ideas are popping into my head. This coin holds great amusement value once I got over my skepticism.

Ewww, those amero coins are ugly. Don't even mention them, they might come back into fashion.

Silver is inching close to $40 an ounce. Which means the coin now has close to $10 worth in silver.

Silver at $80 an ounce?
