Poll Question
I've been getting skunked on boxes of halves more than usual lately.
In your opinion would I do better searching dimes or sticking with Halves?

If you can get the halves keep hunting the halves. I can't find a bank anywhere near me that will let me order boxes of halves.

I'd keep doing halves. from what I've seen dime pulls are even worse than halves.
Most people I see may pull 1 or 2 dimes a box. Most people I see do halves usually get atleast 1 or 2 %40's maybe 1 90%.
by the box, I think you do better on halves though a box is more money than a box of dimes, but just pure # of coins pulled, it looks like halves are a better shot.
Also halves don't circulate as much so, I would think there would be more silver left.

Do a couple boxes of dimes. You won't find much, but even little finds are better than no finds and sometimes it helps to find a little bit of silver to prevent you from burning out. Then go back to halves when you get bored with dimes.

With the recent spike in silver it seems like everyone is coin roll hunting nowadays and It feels like the "good" ol days are gone.

yeah peso is right. I've been doing it for about 6 months now and let me tell ya I have seen more coinhunter marks in the past month than ever. I'm talking 20 or so different ones per box. and this is from both brinks and string and sons.

There is no cut and dry answer to that. Every area is different. In my area halves dried up almost 2 years ago. Dimes have been very good to me. Other areas are just the opposite. That said, even dimes have started to dry up on me. I'm pretty much ready to throw in the towel on silver searching anymore. There is a member at the realcent forum that has been keeping track of silver finds from coin roll hunting. His charts show different denominations being more productive than the others in various regions, and vise-versa. I would recommend doing dimes for a while and see how that pans out. Then make a decision.

Zig when the masses zag. I've moved over to searching quarters lately because the attention isn't on them.
If we're all being completely honest, let's be realistic and say the real money maker if trends continue might very well be copper pennies.

My sample size is small-- but I've never found a silver half while roll-searching. I get the impression at my bank that many rolls of halves are turned in by an obsessive/compulsive roll-searcher. Something about them all being obverse-up and arranged in chronological order...
I have found a couple of silver dimes though-- including one today in 6 bank-wrapped rolls-- which is a nice by-product of my (fruitless so far) search for 2009 dimes.

I quit ordering boxes, as it's cheaper and easier to buy the silver outright.... At 20X face.

rkrj-- at today's prices, dimes are a little over $2, 40% halves are about $4.30, and 90% halves are about $10.50. There's a helpful website that lists these-- I don't think links are allowed here-- but you'll find it if you Google something like "coin melt value".
