I could see it going for $145+. There haven't been any of these listed on ebay that I could find. The highest grade I could find was MS65, so it does have the potential to go higher.

Firstly, from the pic coin looks goregeous.
POP total in higher grade pcgs is 7, 34 at NGC per heritage site.
As Susan said, I could find no completed ebay sales at 66, only MS 65, 2 PCGS at MS 65 went for $139 and $162.
Heritage lists 5 PCGS MS 66s- went for 345 to460 in Jan and Feb of this year.

Hey Grovey,
I hope this helps. It seems that the price range is very very broad. All in all a popular coin in high grades. I say bid based on the best grade assessment you can make from the pictures. It looks great to me,it is a PCGS, you are saving a stiff grading fee and shipping costs for the same!I'd say your safe even at $250.00 if you like it and maybe more based on the PCGS prices we have posted for you. If it happened to upgrade to a MS67 "LOOK OUT"! The price goes through the roof! Mike

Between Bowers & Merena, Heritage, and ebay complete austions, I find by using all of the above, you can pretty much see where the market prices are for a given coin in a given grade for a given time period.

Of course the argument becomes WHY? Why is that PCGS and NGC get more for this same coin in the same grade than it were "properly" graded and raw. I reply, "Says who?" and that is where fights break out.

The market sets the price and buyers need to educate themselves as much as possible on grading, eye appeal, and all of the factors that contribute to the price of a coin before they determine how much of their money they wish to part with to acquire a specimen.

If you get this coin less than $150, it would appear to be a good deal. the question becomes, "Would you be happy with the purchase?" Speaking from experience, I probably paid higher prices for some of my coins because I was in a "got to have it...I want it" mode. But these "over-paid-coins" were for my collection and I m still glad I bought them. So much for that high when you acquire a new coin and when it arrives in the mail.

Sometimes you have to say, "I don't care (within reason)...I just want it".

And grovey, keep us posted- we're on edge.
Anyone, looking at Mike's list of heritage prices- that strikes me as an exceptionally wide range. It also strikes me that at least in this grade- price may have declined abit at least for this walker in this grade- am I reading too much into these prices?

I wouldn't try to second guess the market on a coin like this. This kind of quality will sell based on how much the buyer wants the coin not the market value of the coin. This is what causes the value of coins to go up.

I emialed him this morning and asked if he would consider taking payments if I was the high bidder ? He said he would but would have to hold on to the item I said of course I wouldn't expect anything else So at least I have the option as long as I don't get impulsive it should be fine.

Don, You picked up on a trend that I noticed as I went all the way back to 1993 on some auctions. I't seems these issues hit somthing of a "high" last year and are back on an up swing after a slump. Even more interesting, though I did not want to start a debate about TPG'S and value, in many cases NGC and even ANAC'S sold for more then PCGS! My opinion on the super high prices is the buyer was seeing something in the coin that indicated the chance that a break out would result in it grading up a notch, more than justifying the high bid. You really need to look at those particular auctions and the pictures of the coins! Mike

Welcome to the forum! Personally, I could see paying that much for that coin. Nikolus II coinage has a lot of history since he was the last of the Romanovs and his ending was so tragic. These are the types of coins that I like for the history that they represent.

Thank you very much, and thank you for my avatar too

I checked the website of Holmasto (a big finnish auction-house) and saw that they sold a similar coin for 120 Euros. It isn't even much higher grade than the to-be-mine-one.
Gee, I feel GOOD
See: http://www.holmasto.com/showobjpic....object=14931

These coins are wonderfull, russian and finnish coins from 1894 to 1917 are best part of my collection. The history really is interesting, all the mess in Russia in those days. - 7 years of war. Alltough that was good for us, the finns, it must have been horrible.

*Dreaming to get the Ruble of 1915 [:p]
