Anybody recognize this? It's about the size of a penny, looks to be copper or bronze, well worn with age, nice brown patina. I'd almost say it is uniface, except the back has a sort of design on it.

Ditto! Can't wait to see what it is. Almost looks like one of those tags I used to see on telephone poles along a railway track to identify a specific site.

It does! My initial reaction was that it was some kind of (homemade) 25¢ token But then I thought with serifs on top and bottom of the line that had to be a letter "I". So, I suspect, it's either CI or IC ...

Yeah, it's impossible to know what was intended. That said, I've seen a lot of odd stylized letters done in the late 19th-early 20th C. Like you said, a crude 25¢ token by a merchant makes some sense, if they made these themselves with whatever was on hand.
