Does anyone know if the blue seal on the 1928 $10 FRN is common, or is this an error.

I believe that is a green seal.

I know I'm color blind, but it usually doesn't affect blue colors, and it looks blue to me... Hmmm...

I have seen yellow seal US Notes before too that people were selling as errors. Whether the ink was not tinted properly or someone figured out a way to bleach the red out of it I can't say.

I admit it does have a bluish/green look to it and I am open to the possibility of an error although my bet would be that the color has changed over time due to one factor or another.

It still looks Green to me, and I'm not color blind.

Right you are Nick.... it is indeed blue, but it wasn't always that way... it was originally green..... folks have chemically treated 1928-1953 red seal $2 notes to make them appear yellow, earlier (circa 1870s) red seal $1 notes have turned to a very dark blue to nearly black through oxidation.... Sometimes the green backs of modern notes are a light blue (as are the seal and serials of this note)..... I have heard a few possible causes, such as prolonged exposure to sunlight, chemical treatment, etc., but I really don't know what caused this, other than it didn't happen at the BEP.

No amq, it is neither common or an error..... I would venture a guess that it holds the normal premium on this note to a minimum..... (unless you find just the right person on just the right day). Whether naturally or artificially, the note has been altered.

I'm glad this wasn't me. I'd have been asking 10 people in real life what color the seal was, and then posting the question...

I'm red/green colorblind in one eye, and monochromatic in the other, so life can get interesting...
