Can anyone confirm my belief this is a 1913 type 1 Buffalo nickel?

Yes it is, date is not required to confirm Type 1 Buffalos due to denomination and mintmark being on the mound instead of under the mound.

Check for die rotation, nohope587. I know of two examples (mine and another coin club member's) which have about 25% rotation.

You might want to make sure that the date has not been raised with acid or by any other means. There are A LOT of BNs floating around that have been altered by acid. Just a thought...
