Bent Coin = How Much Value Lost? - Coin Community Forum

Hammer Dog New Member United States 1 Posts	Posted 02/09/2011 5:35 pm I recently picked up a Type II 1854 gold dollar off ebay. When it arrived yesterday, I noticed it was slightly bent. Not much, but noticeable. In terms of detail, I would grade it at worst a VG. The NGC price guide lists an 1854 Type II VG at $210. The seller is willing to refund my money or give me a discount. I paid $185 for it. How would being slightly bent detract from its value, in your opinion? Thanks, James Report this Post to the Staff

atlashealth Pillar of the Community United States 1691 Posts	Posted 02/09/2011 6:50 pm price guides are for coins without issues...the true value of your recent purchase would be a little over melt since it is not a rare coin (almost a million struck)in the neighborhood of $100...basically you overpaid...if you can get a refund...you should...if not enjoy the coin anyway...it might eventually be worth what you paid.
