I recently picked up a Type II 1854 gold dollar off ebay. When it arrived yesterday, I noticed it was slightly bent. Not much, but noticeable. In terms of detail, I would grade it at worst a VG. The NGC price guide lists an 1854 Type II VG at $210. The seller is willing to refund my money or give me a discount. I paid $185 for it. How would being slightly bent detract from its value, in your opinion?

Thanks,

James

If I bought the coin, I would return it for the full refund.

Your coin is worth BV. There's no way I'd put up with a bent coin. Skip the discount and get your $$ back.

price guides are for coins without issues...the true value of your recent purchase would be a little over melt
since it is not a rare coin (almost a million struck)in the neighborhood of $100...basically you overpaid...if you can get a refund...you should...if not enjoy the coin anyway...it might eventually be worth
what you paid.

How much is the discount? If it's good I would take it seeing as it is made of gold and presumably the value can only go up from here.

FYI, it's $70 just in gold right now.
Rest in Peace

I'm guessing the coin is better than VG, I would value it @ at least $140 because the type 2's are quite scarce. It would be more if it was extremely slight.
