Hi all. Does anybody know what the security company (plastic) bags are made out of? I was just wondering if storing/leaving coins in these bags long term will be doing them harm. Any ideas?

Thanks, Ben

Hi Ben,
Not sure what exact type of plastic they are.
I use ziplock bank change bags a lot and they seem good for all except $1 & $2, which seem to tone up quite quickly in most types of plastic bags. In fact these seem to tone quite quickly anyway stored just about any way.
For large quantities I have been using plastic food storage containers from a discount store.
For 20ยข coins old 35mm film cannisters sre perfect and any photo processing store will probably give you as many as you want; FREE.
I also have a number of pads of paper coin wrappers and they are good for storage -lay them in shallow plastic trays in a drawer or on a shelf and you can fit a lot of coins in a small space.

cheers
Jeff

They are made of polyethylene. They have recycling code 4 on them (well mine do). PE is fine for long term storage of coins.

I checked Armaguard big (bulk) sealed bags, little (change) sealed bags and the sealable (bulk) bank bags and all have recycling code 4. LDPE (light density Polyethylene.
Bank ziplock change bags are not so marked but I think same plastic.
These should all be good. Certainly better than any old PVC bag that can release all sorts of chemicals.

Jeff
P.S. Food grade ziplock bags are PE too.
