Just got my email message from Whitman Publishing about the 2012 Red Book. It is now available for ordering for those that want one hot off the presses. If you go to the Whitman web site for books they list the 2012 hard cover as $16.95, spiral soft cover $14.95, spiral hard cover $19.95, spiral soft cover large print $29.95 and the latest Professional version, 2nd edition, $29,95. No leather bound versions listed for the 2012 edition.
I was a little surprized that Whitman also sells coins.
Sure wonder why all their prices end in .95? Why not just even amounts? Probably will be available in April as usual.
I'll wait for the prices to drop though.
If you go to their web site you would be amazed at how many books on coins they now produce.

It is a psychological trick. $29.95 looks more affordable than $30.

I often buy from the Whitman site, as that is the only way to purchase the leather bound editions of their books.

No Leather bound editions shown for the 2012 edition or at least not yet.

Thanks guys, I didn't know it was available in Leather. Man, all the neat leather books I could have added to my Library. I'll have to see if anyone has some old ones to sell.

On the Whitman web site they still have some of the older ones in Leather for sale. Can't remember but think they were about $69 or somehing like that. They still showed several years of them.

Yes, and they still want 70 bucks for them. I'll wait for the 2012.

Whitman also has a reputation for paying little to authors.

All publishing companies try to pay as little as possible to authors.

Now that is something I don't understand. At coin shows around me the latest Red Book, spiral soft cover sells for $10.00 each. And for steady customers I can get the Hard Cover for that too. Yet on the Whitman web site, Amazon web site, any places that carry that book, they sell for a lot more. So just how do some dealers get that book for an amount that they can sell for such a low price and still make money?
