I got a 1987 diem in change the other daY.....has a light copper color to it and its all copper on the side, with no silver coloring whatsoever showing. It's in au condition. Any idea what could have happened to it?
Funny..I found a 1993-D yesterday in a roll of pennies...it looks like a penny at first glance because of the color. Will try to post mine tomorrow as it has me wondering too.
it may have been buried, I find clad coins when I go metal detecting and most of them are discolored and the color depends on where they were buried and how long. It could have also been in a tumbler with some copper cents.
geez, I forgot about it......will take a few pics tomorrow and post them. I was def not soemthing that was buried, etc....I metal detect as well and I am used to seeing what the mineralization does to them. It is perfectly clean, just discolored - and very evenly.
