I know little about ancients, but it's an area I'm interested in. I would love to hear thoughts on this coin at the price. They also have an 'EF' version at $50 less.

The price is high but not as high as some of the other places that sell ancients in this way (stock photos, not really aimed at serious collectors etc).

If I were you I'd look here:

http://www.forumancientcoins.com/ca...sp?vpar=1685

They sell them in lots of three and are trusted sellers within the hobby - you also get to see the actual coins your buying!

Quite a few on ebay but I would prob keep clear of those as aparently there are many fakes about:

Chequer, anything the shopping channel has is going to be overpriced and this is especially true of coins. If Forvm can sell these 3/$120, that makes this one about worth about 20% the asking price. Unless you just have to have the fancy case and COA, I'd bypass it.
Forvm ancient coins is a great dealer and will treat you right.

"Unless you just have to have the fancy case and COA"

One of the local dealers and I were having a conversation about the coins on QVC, and other late night channels. We talked about the ridiculous sales pitches and how they talk about rarity, all misleading. Then the dealer was telling me he feels bad because he has many elderly come in thinking they have this great coin or coin set that is worth several hundred dollars and he has to break it to them that the coin itself is worth $20 and that they basically paid several hundred dollars for the case and certificate.

Thanks everyone! I knew there'd be another source and that the shopping channel was overpriced, but not being experienced with ancients, I didn't know where. Thanks for the info
Rest in Peace

One thing I've never seen mentioned before is that in order to justify the high costs of production and advertising on TV, they have to have large quantities of whatever they're peddling. This means they look for common stuff like Morgan dollars that they can buy tens of thousands of without affecting the market much. It's also why you don't see them offering much better "investments" like bust halves, large cents, or 20ยข pieces. They can't just pick up a phone and order a few thousand.

You can bet if they're offering ancients, the "rarities" they have can be bought by the dozen at any specialist in ancients, and for a lot less money.

Ever see Babe Ruth's autograph on a check offered? That's because a big bullion and autograph dealer bought 500 of them from the son of Babe's accountant. I saw them my own personal self.
