Hello,
I am going through some of my coins and starting to grade them for inventory and would like to hear your opinions on my grading. For starters I am using a Cannon PowerShot SD790-IS on a tripod and using macro setting. I will get better with the photography so forgive me but this is just a start.

At 12:00 is a 1943-M Australia Florin = VF-30 (cleaned?)
At 03:00 is a 1879 Great Britain Six Pence = G-6
At 06:00 is a 1907-D German Mark = XF-45
At 09:00 is a 1918 Great Britain Shilling = VF-30

Should I even worry about the numbers after the grade with World coins? I know some collectors use it so I guess matter of opinion. The Krause catalog does not use them. Is there like a percentage to calculate the difference between like a VF-20 and a VF-35 ?

Any help is greatly appreciated, Thanks!

Your grades look accurate to me, I concur with the likely cleaning on the Ozzie coin; the German Mark is probably closer to a choice VF than an XF and the Shilling's to my mind a lower VF.

As to the question of numbers with Dark Side coins' grades: of course they matter, to collectors who go after such coins. The simple fact is that the majority of dealers and collectors in the USA largely ignore world coins, beyond bullion sales and top-shelf, high-grade stuff.

In the Internetical world of today, the disregard of most of the US market for Dark Sider coins means less and less.

Now, the other factor to consider is the rarity of the coins you're talking about. US or Dark Side coins alike: in lower grades, with pretty commonly available coins, people care less and less about finer distinctions between say, VF-20 and VF-35.

And of course over here on the darkside, we don't use numbers when we grade. And we use a stricter grading system.

So if you are buying or selling in the US, use numbers. If you are buying or selling from over here, there will be no numbers, only a letter grade. You will mostly find that the letter grades seem much better than the US. For instance, what I would grade VF, you would most likely grade XF.

Oh, and at the moment it isn't so dark here. It is 4pm.

You can add a '+' or '-' after the grade

I concur with your grades. I was thinking VG for the six pence though :)
