It's actually from the philipinnes. For the grade, I really dont know but maybe it is AU IMHO.

It is a nice coin still has lots of mint luster. Might make MS but there looks to be slight wear on the mountain and the high points. IMHO

In 1944, I bet that Philippines coins were actually minted in the US as Japan was at that time occupying the place.

they were according to what I've read nod.....I used to have a bunch of them but sold them when silver started going nuts. A boyfriend of my mother's brought them back from his tour in WW2, and gave some to me when I was a kid back around 1980 or so.

yeh.....this coin came from my grandfather who just recently passed and left me his coins.....MANY of his coins were from the war times and most contain silver.....too much centimental value to let any of them go.....thanks for the responses and I will deffinitly go back and check for that s/s mint mark but I have to get a nice 16x glass to look for it....i never really got into any error type coins but with this collection I want to get a glass to take a closer look at a lot of them
