Hey Guys.. I have noticed lately that the halves are really drying up in my area. They are few and far between and the ones I do come across are heavily searched... with marks from tons of other searchers. I actually was dropping off some coin that the man next to me was buying hah... he was asking for halves... now he's got mine. :P Is anyone else noticing this? Also on the way home I saw 2 guys walking along the beach with metal detectors.. eesh..

Hit my circuit in the next town over yesterday - three halves. Not three silver - three total. Seems like the vein dried here before I got to it. Most times I find less than $50 in a town!

yeahh .. I guess with silver up so high everyone is extra aware. Even the tellers seem to have caught on :/ My total find for the day was 1 silver dime after searching 625$... time to start working on pennies again I guess.

The half dollar coins vanished around me a long time ago. Many banks refuse to even order them. Found 3 for the first time in a really long time.

I think halves are a done deal for the most part. I have not been able to get a full roll in over two months and have scored a total of 16 silver, 40 & 90%, since December of 2009. Half of those came from the store down the street.

You're in Elmwood Park, right? I've ordered halves from several banks not far from there and had tellers in three banks hand me silver out of their trays. No big scores, but you can definitely get some of the banks around to order halves for you.

I saw more competition when silver jumped to $12 about 3 years ago. I also saw just as many silver-saavy tellers then.

yeah I'm seeing a huge drop off in halves, but dimes seem to be holding on just fine.

I have had a bunch of luck then. In my area I have pulled two rolls of silver ( all 40% and 3 90%) from roll searching. What's even funnier is that the tellers asked me to take them off their hands. Sure I will take $70+ in silver off you hands for $10.
