I think this coin is cleaned. But I don't want to miss out on this coin if this actually isn't cleaned. So checking with the experts to see if it is indeed cleaned.

Thanks

A VERY beautifull coin! Wow those details are crazy.. I say not cleaned... but then again, I'm no expert :)

It does appear that it has several die cracks...

brokencompass There is some obvious staining on the obverse which could point to a chemical cleaning - but I also see clear hairlines on the reverse field area. That could be a result of the lighting angle but I suspect contact rubbing - not necessarily actual cleaning.

If this went to NGC I can almost guarantee it will come back without a specific grade assignment.

I just had an 1842 Chilean 8E slabbed by NGC and I KNEW it was not cleaned and it had great luster but it came back "AU details - Hairlines". Getting a coin certified as being uncleaned at present seems to require absolute pristine surfaces.

Thanks Kingz, Swamperbob. I felt it was cleaned because of the way dust is not evenly distributed all over the coin. If you notice, you will see the debris in some of the letters but the field seems to be very clear.

Swamperbob, Can you put a picture of the coin you sent for grading? It would be awesome if you could post a picture so we all know what to expect when sending for slabbing :)

brokencompass Sorry but I didn't take pictures of this one (or I can't find them). I have already mailed it back to the owner.
