2011 20c for circulation Centenary of International Women's Day
March 8, 2011
The Royal Australian Mint, the Assistant Treasurer Bill Shorten and the Minister for the Status of Women Kate Ellis have announced today that a commemorative coin will be released into circulation. The cupro nickel 20c commemorates 100 years of International Womens Day, today, March 8th 2011. The coin will follow a tradition of depicting strong, historically traditional women on coins and banknotes in Australia but it is yet to be seen who will feature on this new circulating coin design.

- it strikes me as odd, that the sub-forums group "Commemoratives" with NCLT, but as this coin is a Commemoratives, I've opened this thread here.
Please correct me if I'm mistaken.

reading the press release, it seems that this project has just entered the "conceptual phase".
See my comments in another thread about the Royal Engagement: that's been on the boil since November.
As I recall, the Bradman 20-cent didn't take long, but perhaps they had the artwrk ready, and only needed to put the date on ?
I hope they start in time to commemorate the Centenaries of Rabaul, the Emden, & Gallipoli. And I hope that they're circulation issues.
