This is a picture of a decent condition 1902 Barber dime. There is a buble that seems to have been in the metal when the coin was minted which caused a raised portion on the surface that was then worn down as shown by the wear pattern on the sides of the bubble. The hollow cavity measures 2mm wide by appx. 1mm high and <1 mm deep and does not go the full depth of the coin nor does it mar the face, only the obverse. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

The oblong mark above the N andthe surrounding wear are the bubble. The oblong mark is the actual air pocket while the wear aroiund it is the indication that it was a "raised" flaw that's been worn down with the coin's circulation.

Is there any way for you to post the obverse? It really has a bearing on the answer to your question.

And by the way, Welcome!!

Hi ucncllmeal

I can see the area, but not in suffient detail to form an opinion ,, if it was a gas bubble then I think it would catagorize under a lamination error,, if it is damage from another source then it is damage.
