I bought this a while back. It's a two pence struck on the wrong planchet. Can any of our British members tell me if this is authentic since I've seen them listed at several hundred dollars on some sites.

The Royal Mint seems to love producing these errors. I have a few of them of all modern British denominations, up to 50P. They market for around $50 in Australia.

Thanks sel! I think I paid around $8 for this one. Then, I saw some on a few different sites for anywhere from $50 to $600!

I'm not sure. On both sides of "two" on the reverse I see some unevenness in the edge. I think someone just sanded it down.

Once I grabbed a Victorian cent I hadn't seen before at a shop. When I realized it was a large Canadian cent with ground down outer ring (with the wreath and the legend) I put it back.

All the others that I've seen are the same.... rough edges. I'm trying to locate some of the other sites that had these listed last year but I didn't bookmark them so it may take a while. I'll post pics of them when I come across them.

I have just examined all of my error coins that have been struck on undersized planchets.

They are all slightly out of round. The edge surfaces are slightly irregular and not always vertical to the faces of the coin. None of them seem to have any evidence of tooling, and there is not she slightest hint of filing or fine sanding marks on any of them. There seems to be no evidence that the obverses or reverses have been held firmly, there is no evidence of pressure stress on the high points of the designs.

All of my errors using undersized planchets have come from Llanstrisant, i.e. British decimal coins.

You're term is more accurate. "Irregular" is what I should have written rather than "rough".
