So a seller can now list up to 50 items for free each month w/ free Buy it now upgrade. BUT, ebay now charges their fee for Shipping Charges. So, that adds 9 cents for each dollar for shipping. So between ebay and PayPal you now need to add around 12% on to your shipping charges just for the Shipping fees.

It was expected...people were selling $100 items for 99 cents plus $99.00 shipping to avoid the fees.As I've stated before, anytime somebody comes up with a way to circumvent the system, they will come up with a way to prevent it.

The problem is that it affects the honest person more.

But most coins cost less than $3 to ship, including delivery confirmation and a padded envelope. You can build ebay's fee into your shipping cost so it doesn't effect you at all. When I had 4 spots in different antique malls around town, each month I paid $650 in space rent alone, PLUS 10-15% commission on anything that sold! I can't tell you how frustrating it was to do over $700 a month in sales and STILL end up owning money to the places selling my stuff, without getting a check! No kidding, it happened. ebay has devised a system that allows ANYONE to become an entrepreneur. It's allowed me to quit my "real" job, buy a house and watch my 2 sons grow up as I work from home. I know I can't put a price on that. There's always going to be changes at ebay, some for the better, some not. But they'll never adopt business practices that intentionally push anyone out of business. It's against their own interest. I guess my point is this- it cost money to make money, no matter how you slice it. ebay is an opportunity....what one makes of that opportunity is their decision. My comments are not directed at anyone above, I just want to point out that ebay may weed out certain practices, but it's not their goal to keep anyone from being successful. The fees are inevitable , but when paid each time you make sales, they're not very noticeable.

Just got my email notice. They dropped the insertion fee to counter the shipping fees. So maybe it won't be too bad for those that were honest to start with. From http://pages.ebay.com/sellerinforma...ate2011.htmlQuote: In general, are selling fees going up or down? For a majority of sellers, fees will go down (especially for sellers who already offer low cost or free shipping) or stay the same. Some sellers may see an overall increase.
Worse for me (new and low volume seller) is they might hold my sale funds stopping me from buying cents as fast as I would want.

Good point- depending on how you already sell, this may benefit sellers.

Also noticed that the 5% discount for being a high rated seller are going away...not sure I agree with that
Edit: Ignore this whole comment,I read it backwards

I just think they could of done something different then doing this. Coin selling will not be affected that much (buying will though-harder to find deals). It will be the bigger/heavier items that will take a hit.

I agree with the 5% discount going away, because the criteria are arbitrary and absurd in my opinion. You can have straight 4.9's and a 99.9% rating and be 'below standard' just by bad luck. If the criteria were better, I would be opposed to dropping it as we should reward our better sellers.

There is allot of people that get around ebay fees with high shipping weight, I reported one not a week ago who was selling a windows 7 DVD for $5.00 with $99.00 shipping. Its things like this that is the reason they are making this change. Quote: (buying will though-harder to find deals). It will be the bigger/heavier items that will take a hit I think its going to be the other way around, I don't think coins will be effected much because allot of people already offer free shipping on coins, its the heavier stuff that costs allot to ship that is going to be harder to find the deals on. But either way I understand this change and I think it will keep the sellers honest, and probably should have always been this way

I have to agree completely- I use medium flat rate boxes to ship 2 bags of cents all the time, just under 70 pounds. Unless you're shipping huge items, the effect on the cost of a flat rate box is less than $1.50. If you build that into your shipping price, none of your customers are going to balk. I think it's actually one of the better changes ebay has made in a while.

Interesting that everyone has been commenting from the seller side, but none from the buyer's. With free insertion fees, I expect far, far fewer true actions, and almost everything listed as effectively fixed-price. The days of ebay bargain hunting are, I'm afraid, coming to an end. Hopefully I'm wrong, but I'm not optimistic.

You could be entirely right, but this has more to do with the market than ebay's policies. I got tired of selling coins I paid $50 for in an auction for less than $20. Auctions have become so undependable, you're essentially giving your stuff away without a reserve. When bidder traffic increases, I'll start selling more often by auction, but if auctions are all I did, I'd have been out of business some time ago. So it's a chicken or the egg, but I miss the tons of auctions to pick through too, I've definitely noticed their absence.

I read where ebay is actually trying to switch over to an Amazon look and feel. All categorized and everything set in stone. Even though ebay is the big boy I think all added up, they are fighting with buy it now.
