I was just reading the newest Coin World news about the congress report and our paper dollar. Did I read this right they are stopping the printing or the dollar as of 2011?

Anyone else read that article?

I believe you may have read it incorrectly. The article say's the GAO's report is based on the assumption that printing of the FRN would cease in 2011, have a 4 year transition period, at which point the FRN would cease circulation. The key is Assumption, this is how they arrived at their estimated savings. It would require Congress to pass a bill this year to actually realize the savings. As it stands, It was just a report made by the GAO and no bill has been pitched to do away with the FRN in exchange for $1 Coin.

My understanding of the article is that Congress would have to make the decision to withdraw the $1.00 FRN and replace it with the existing $1.00 Coins...
Congress has failed to do this in the past, and I believe will continue to vote down the elimination of the 1 Dollar Note (regardless of the net savings to the taxpayer) as re-election is their number one priority...
What most people don't realize it that the $2.00 Note will replace the current $1.00 Note in circulation...

I read the article and I'm really upset that someone on the hill is probably saying "oh that's just 1 or 2 billion in savings and not worth the effort". Balderdash! I remember someone once telling be that if you watch you pennies, the dollars take care of themselves. We have to start somewhere to get every representative that tells us that "HIS" or "HER" program is only X amount of money and should not be cut. We gotta start somewhere.

And I'm sure by now they have realized that there is quite a nice start to the $1 coin to use them. They have most hoarded at the reserve anyway, Kill the Dollar Bill!

People might be more receptive to $1 coins if they didn't look like butt ugly brass arcade tokens.
