While a bimetallic circulating coin would be great the gold MUST be gold as it is intended, for the most part, for investors in bullion coinage not collecting. Of course many collect them but that was not the governments original intention but they are not complaining that the collectors got hooked on those dated bullion coins. I do hope the mint takes the design process seriously and gives us all something we can be proud of as well as collect!

Boy it sure didn't take them very long!!
How in the world did they get a design, get the dies made & start minting in just a couple of days?
The US Mint has a large demand for the new Buffalo nickel & it seems like the whole system shut down. I still can't get in to my account at the mint site.
There must not be any discussion or red tape in Liberia.

They had a couple of weeks with the election down to 2 individuals. They probably pre-made dies for both so that, as soon as the new Pope was elected, they could start striking coins.

I will agree with ageka on this one. Those dies were probably started when the Pope turned ill, if not before, and like it or not they had to know sooner or later they would be used. Just add a face and start striking!

No doubt about this one. The Pope had been sick for quite some time. What bugs me is the absolute shameless marketing of these coins. It simply gives all of coin collecting a bad name. What surprises me is the lack of TV commercials.
