Hi all,
I know next to nothing about coins, except mint errors can be rare and collectible. I found this loonie while rolling my change. It has a rectangular mark through it with what seems like extra material starting from the Queen's cheek, extending through the letters in her name. The discolored area seems to have a slight border. Sorry for the crap pictures. Just wanted to check to see if this guy is worth keeping out of the coin roller.
Thank you in advance for looking.

First, welcome and we'd be glad to help

BUT (No offense) but that could be a penny for all I can make out from the pic.

PMD. It looks like it picked up something off a workbench.

I think it's been hit with heat and some pressure in that one spot and caused the plating to come off the nickel. If the owner was anything like me he might use a loonie as a handy shim for vise work to protect something you are heating with the torch.

PMD is post mint damage, meaning the problem was caused at some point after it left the mint intact.

I agree with Mr Lucky pants. errr I mean I agree with ikandiggit.

I had a feeling it was handyman related haha. But the other side was fine so thought I'd at least ask.

By the way. As an aside. I think this site might inspire me to keep checking my change. I have been lurking the boards ever since I found you guys haha. Keep up the good work.

-Ugly- I agree certainly PMD! I'm with you on heat being involved!
---I think you nailed it with a torch!
---My best guess? Almost looks like it has a raised surface for the most part
and so to me looks like solder?
