1797 Coin / Token Question (8 Star Variety)

In hand it looks and feels like metal, (it is cool to the touch and does not stick to a magnet) brass in particular to me at least. I don't know how old it is (assuming date is not reliable) but I do know it has sat in a box of my grandfathers stuff since he died in 70s and I think he had it for some time before that, but that is all I know for sure.
