I did follow that trial as it progressed. The defendant had the right idea, but didn't really go about it the right way IMO.

Congress has sole power of the mint, but states are specifically given the power to use precious metals as tender. As we've seen this year, a handful of states have passed gold and silver as 'legal tender' laws. Including my home state of Utah.

This guy was privately minting coins and claiming legal tender status. So pros and cons either way.

He was making coins but I don't believe he ever claimed they were legal tender.

the charges of domestic terrorism and conterfieting seem a bit ridiculous. I suppose if a small group of people wanted to trade and barter using whatever type of currency they wanted, maybe bacon dollars, then I don't see why that would be illegal.

Seems like the govt tried to sweep this guy under the rug, guilty before proven innocent, and stole all his assets.

will be interesting to see if he does get convicted.
