Hello again,

as some of you know I have recently come back to the Coin World after finding my old coin binder that I was collecting back in the early 80's some of the pieces in my collection are very interesting, Alot of foreign currency ranging from the 50's-80's and some local coins (Canadian.) ranging from 1907-80's

Anyways I came accross this piece and was having trouble identifying it. What do know is its from BC as stated on the coin and thats about it :P does anyone know where its from and or what it was for, also what is it made of. Any information would be great thanks...

These are Chinese Dynasty Dollars issued in 1977 - 1978 in white metal and sold to raise funds for local Canadian-Chinese cultural activities. The 5 coins are: White Metal Round 38mm

1 - 618 - 907 Tang
2 - 960 - 1279 Sung
3 - 1279 - 1368 Yuan
4 - 1368 - 1644 Ming
5 - 1644 - 1912 Ching

Off metal souvenir coins were also made in sterling, 10 karat and 24 karat gold, however these were not intended for circulation...

The figure shown in the left image is the "God of Prosperity" identified by the Chinese character lu (禄) and the word "Prosperity".

The "God of Prosperity" usually carries a ruyi sceptre which you can see in his left hand.

For those interested, more about the "God of Prosperity" and ruyi sceptre can be found here: http://primaltrek.com/impliedmeanin...f_prosperity.
