I am currently trying to understand the step by step process of
making coins. It seems a person has to have a complete library to see the complete process in it's entirety. One question I have is has anyone ever found a coin with the lathe lines from the reducing machine on it? Is this considered an error? Any help would be appreciated thanks.

A few U.S. coins have been found with lathe lines, mainly cents and nickels. I haven't seen a Canadian one yet.

I saw one about 10 years ago looking through circulation rolls At the time I didn't have a loop and just thought it was an old coin in bad shape. Searching through BU rolls helps alot now, although it gets a bit expensive. I was searching the 1964 and 1965 Canadian nickels for new hub doubling when I found the new error. I passed them by and on the third it come to me instantly, lathe lines.
It might be a day or two to get pictures but one punch die strike exists.

Yes I'd love to show every one but it looks like I need a micro camera for the picture to come in clear and magnified, sorry.

I have never found one but I do own one- a 1996D Lincoln Cent. The lines have been attributed to the usage of the Janvier Reducing Lathe during the die making process.
