So a few weeks ago I was at a garage sale and bought 10 boxes of old silver solder. The boxes said 36% silver, for 5.00$ I could not pass on the deal, I paid and went on my way.
A few days pass and I take it to my local coin/silver dealer, where it is acid tested and comes back as copper/nickel. I could not believe it! I asked if there was any way I could get this tested again so a Assay was recommended. The cost $35.00 so I pay, and wait...and wait... finally I get the call today, I go in and to my surprise turns out the Assay reveals that the solder is in fact 36.7% silver. Needless to say I brought in just under 1300 grams of this solder. The dealer throws me an offer cash or some silver with no spot.
So my $40 investment
turned into
1- 10oz Scotia Bank Bar
2- 2004 Canadian Maples
1- JM 1 oz bar
could not be happier! Just goes to show acid tests are not always correct!
