Looking to see what you guys would grade this. Also if you know the variety, I would be interested to see if my guess is right.

I'm not a CBH expert, but it looks like strike issues to me around liberty's neck. The rest almost looks XF, so I'd say net 25-30.

Agree with VF-20 damaged (gouge on the back between OF and America, significant scratch right of United, something going on with the obverse date)

Fenton, that is a die crack not a gouge.

I think this CBH grade is closer to an F-15. I say the variety is O-106. The diagnostics for 1812 CBH O-106 Die Marriage are pretty easy to pinpoint. The partially filled 8 on the obverse, and the amazing Die Crack across the reverse are pretty striking! Diagnostics for O-106 (Rarity-3)Obverse: Star 1 points between dentils. There is a break which partially fills the lower loop of "8" with a lump. From here the crack goes upward entirely through Miss Liberty, and into milling at star 6. A second crack from base of "8" goes left joining all stars. A third crack through "2" joins the first crack. A heavy break starts at the milling below the "2", and extends upwards well into the portrait. Reverse: A strong die crack runs entirely across the reverse from "N" to "F", heavier at both ends. Crossbar 3 extends far into right wing. A centering dot shows between crossbars 4 & 5 at left. "I" is centered under left side of "T". Quote: damaged (gouge on the back between OF and America, significant scratch right of United, something going on with the obverse date) These are all part of the O-106 variety.

Oh, I see. You posted identical threads in two different forums. Really wish you wouldn't do that, nod2003.

Quote: I have R-4 Moe I've only seen this Die Marriage as an R-3 rarity factor. But my Overton Book is the 4th edition not the preferred 3rd. Quote: Moe do you get your diagnostics from the zipp forum? Yes! I hate to plug another coin web site here on CCF but I find these threads invaluable when it comes to determining the variety of a Capped Bust half dollar (the site has other types too). You have to join the site to access it but it's free. http://coinzip.proboards.comIMO, the Overton book has nice descriptions but horrible pictures/depictions of the varieties. Coin **(No Zip Files Allowed)** works SO much better!
