If you are looking for gold, then you could buy the bullion buffaloes at this site. I have bought a few from them. Don't buy and collectible coins, though because they will try and overcharge you (ask me how I know!

This is the cheapest online site I've found price wise. They charge $25 for shipping and insurance.
You could buy the bullion coins and then send them to be graded if you want to see if you get lucky, but it costs quite a bit to do that and who knows what grade you will get.
For buying gold, I'd go with a graded older coin which will increase in value, or buy bullion, ungraded modern coins (eagles or buffaloes).
