Hello forum members,

I'm new to coin collecting and came across this little coin in my old tin. Now I'm reasonably sure that this is a Taiwan 1 yuan from year 70 (1981). But all the rest of these coins that I have foudn on the web/etc are in bronze. Does anyone have any information/ideas on this silver-coloured version?

Many thanks!

From the look of it, the silver colour is wearing off of the high points. I suspect your coin is an ordinary bronze coin that has been painted or plated, perhaps in an attempt to make it pass as a cupronickel 5 yuan.
