Just received my Canon 350-D XT Rebel and the camera itself seems to work fine but couldn't get the computer (Windows 7/64 Bit) to recognize it via USB unless I changed the communication setting in the camera's menu from PC Communication to Print/TPT which brought it up OK and was able to use Zoombrowser but could not tether camera/computer via the EOS Utility.

The EOS Utility won't accept it and tells me I have to go back to the PC Communication setting again. Big circle which leads nowhere. Uninstalled/re-installed EOS but no help. Looked on Canon web site for updates but none listed for 64 bit Windows 7 but they did have one for 32 bit so downloaded and updated but same problem. No updates for the camera driver either.

Suggestions, thoughts ideas? Anyone ever have this problem before? Searched a number of web sites and seems there are a number of people looking for a Windows 7 64 bit driver for the camera to no avail. Seems Canon hasn't made one available.

Before you launch the software hook up the camera and turn it on. Wait for the popup to come up on your computer that asks you what you want to do, then close it. Now open the software. Then select Camera Settings/Remote shooting.

Thanks Bobby1313 but that didn't do the trick. Same thing again. Just came from Microsoft website. Their list of compatable hardware shows this particular camera as not being compatable under W7/64 bit and just referred me back to Canon so guess I'm out of luck.

Here's the link http://www.microsoft.com/windows/co...ype=Hardware
Seems very strange but if Canon hasn't come out with a driver by now, I wouldn't think one will be forthcoming given the camera's been out a number of years now. Oh well....I was also looking for an update for the EOS Utility but couldn't find one either.

Well I take that back. Don't even know what camera I've got. One of the cameras on that link (the compatible one) is the one I actually have. $#@#$%%^^&(* Canon EOS Digital Rebel XT EF-S 18-55 Kit so something else is rotten in Denmark. Back to the drawing board.

FINALLY found a work around. Installed MS Virtual PC then loaded Windows XP on to it then installed all the Canon software/drivers into the XP OS. Kind of the long way around the world but it's the only fix I could find. Came up great. Now all I havta do is learn to use that EOS Utility.

If you have the savvy to do a Virtual Machine on your computer, I suspect the Canon Utility won't hold you up for long.

Don't hesitate to post any questions here.
