So, uh, this is going to sound like the world's silliest question, but I have been driving all around to different banks buying boxes of brinks-wrapped coins and getting a little frustrated that I can only find brinks-wrapped coins and not the federal reserve bags that are mentioned in some threads.

Then it dawned on me: I work about 50 yards from the St. Louis Federal Reserve.

So, my silly question is: Is there some way to get money bags from them? I feel like if I walk over there and ask for some bags of money, I'll never be heard from again. If I can't go ask for money bags, is there something cool they have over there that I can get directly from them? -- maybe save the shipping on something?

I've looked around on their website, but I don't see anything like what I am talking about.

Maybe you can just call them.

They were pretty cool actually. There is nothing I can walk over and buy, but she did say that they supply the coins to all of the banks, but that it's just a matter of the carrier that the banks use as to whether they are rolled or in bags.

So basically, when I ask Commerce bank to bring me a 500 box, brinks picks up the bag from the fed, rolls it, and then takes it to commerce for me to pick up. She said she couldn't tell me which banks would just give me the bag because it's based on the carrier that the bank uses.

So, I figure that I will not mess with Commerce Bank, but maybe one of the new banks I intend to sign up for I could tell them to just not have brinks roll it -- I presume that Brinks would be willing to do that, since, not rolling is probably cheaper, and if I'm OK with it, then everyone should be OK with it, right?

Anyway, thanks for pointing out the obvious. I was just a little scared to call over there, because I figured they would think I was a crazy person!

Yep, Fed Banks do not do business with the public.

I sort of figured as much, but my figured no harm in trying to figure it out -- and if it was easy peasy to just go to the fed and get bags, then I didn't want to be missing out, since the Fed is closer to my work than any other bank (except UMB bank which is in my building, but is totally ridiculous and laughed at me for wanting to order coins -- Nice business model!)

I live in st. louis too. I use 53 bank. They have been great to me for getting boxes from. I've only done one box of pennies at a time tho. Its never been a problem if they have one to spare.
