SuperDave here I am
camera= Nikon coolpix 4600
4.0 effective megapixels
3x zoom 34-102mm optical
in camera red-eye fix
Thats all I could find on the camera plus alot of knobs and buttons.
I don't know a pixel from a red-eye. Yes I'm a neophyte whan it comes to photography. Ask me about Dentistry and we will talk all day.

Everything I talk about concerning setup is true for you as well. Your camera does not have manual controls, so the settings discussions aren't relevant, but everything else is exactly what I'd suggest for your specific camera. Macro mode on your camera is the "down" arrow on the 4-way selector - the picture of a flower.

Follow my suggestions for setup - firm mount for the camera, camera and coin parallel, delayed shutter (on your camera that's the left arrow). Start maybe 6" from the same coin and see what we get.
