Exciting find for me or so I think. I took this to a reputable dealer here and he confirmed it was a Double Die, but again even they can sometimes be wrong. This has strong doubling on the date and none on the mintmark. There is slight doubling on the 1 and very pronounced doubling on the 970. There is slight doubling on In God We Trust in the letters N, G, D, E, T, R, and T. So slight in fact I cant get a pic of it well enough to show. I looked this up on lincolncent resource and notice the position of the doubling is not in the same position, which makes me have lots of doubt. So please chime in here if you could.

I know that if the date and mintmark both have doubling it is Machine Doubling. I do not see any at all in the mintmark.
Now how does a guy go about selling this thing since it is ungraded and out of a box? Is it even worth my time to sell this?

Heres the best pic I could get of it with my Cannon Ez shot 10x.

I'd say more times than not, they are wrong. They just simply have too much to concern themselves with to become die experts.

The same thing happened to me when I first started collecting. Found some doubling on a coin, took it to a local dealer, and he "confirmed" it was a doubled die.

Well, now that I know what I know, he was clearly wrong. They are mostly (not all of them, but most of them) in the business of buying a coin for "X" and selling it for "Y".

The good news is, they will sell you the real deal for "Y" and if you know what you're looking for - well, that's called cherrypicking.

Thank you everyone for stopping me from making a huge mistake selling this. Had it not been for this forum, I would have
sold it and potentially created a problem for myself. Too bad its MD, I almost thought I had something for a second there
but thats the way it goes sometimes.

Thanks again, Back to the search for me it is

When MD happens, the die "catches" certain aspects of a coin and basicly flattens them out. This is how you tell MD from DD, on DD, the doubled images will be rounded like they are supposed to be there, on MD the doubled image will have a flat shelve look to it.

Still a cool find!

Before you think it's not a DD, try checking with https://www.coppercoins.com
No mention of that one in his book about Lincoln Cents but could be a slight example of the one he does show in the book. Try his web site and see what he says.
