A guy in my coin club showed me a matching pair of shattered die broas pie baker tokens and it very much captured my interests. So I have decided to attempt a die progression set of these. I just received my first for the set. Check out the shattered die, rotated reverse, and huge die clash! Needless to say I love it and can't wait to find my next one. all opinions welcome and appreciated.
P.S. The first reverse pic shows the rotation.

Wow, this one was struck from a die that was really at the end of its use. The clear die clash on the reverse is very interesting, as are the die cracks on the obverse.

The die for that token is going.......going....... but not quite gone. No wonder it is called a DIE! I wonder if the owner of the die managed to gather the bits, and super glue them together again to strike more tokens?

Notice the die clash on the reverse. I was always amazed they kept striking these even though the die was falling apart.

Lots of luck, putting together a die progression set for this variety. If you can find one that wasn't struck by this common, shattered die, this oldtimer would love to see it! Best wishes in your hunt ... A fun, multiple error, this.

One of the great attractions of Civil War tokens for collectors is the large variety of errors that can be had for modest prices. There are many sellers on ebay who tout these common errors; this, akin to barkers at at a carnival sideshow.

I have seen some struck without any errors, some with only the die clash, some with onlythe shattered die, and also some with just large Cuds. You are correct though, one without error seems to be the less common one in this case.

Sign of the times is my guess ... necessity money. Waste not, want not, perhaps?
