This little lady has been to the store more than a few times as evidenced by the numerous marks that, I believe, can only come from circulation. Although she looks a little rough, there is still mint luster in the fields and some of the recessed areas of the image - somewhat dull, but there.
My problem in grading this one comes from the hole at 9:00 on the obverse. It looks as though something hot touched it, made the hole, and caused the surrounding metal to puddle up around the hole. Under magnification, the hole itself is not smooth, but rather jagged inside, and I can't begin to explain the rusty color. To my knowledge, silver doesn't rust.
So, how does that affect the grade of the coin? I sure do need some help on this one. Thanks.

Ralph

I believe it'd bodybag for Environmental Damage or somesuch because of the hole - likely the red is transferred from whatever hit it, or is corrosion of whatever substancs was transferred.

Beyond that, this one's 45-50. Being an "O" mint, I don't want to fall either side of the XF-AU line without the coin in-hand.

On a related note: Your scans are large and clear enough to come pretty close with grading. However, if your scanner has Brightness and Contrast controls, try ratcheting the Brightness downward about 5% and the Contrast upward a similar amount. I think that'll bring the coin closer to the in-hand appearance.

Bodybag, huh? Someday it'll be an extra - when I can afford to replace it with a better one, but my upgrading days are somewhere in the future.
I've been playing around with the contrast, sharpen, and brightness on the scanner - I'm still learning. If you recall, a month or so ago I didn't even know what dpi meant, let alone how to use it to take better scans.

Yes, and you've shown a heckuva learning curve since. There's no doubt that you will be getting the best possible images from that scanner very soon.
