If you collect Canada I would suggest Charlton but bear in mind any coin book you use is only a guide and also it would be a ggod idea to read the intro first. Good luck and welcome to the forum.
If you are talking about Canadian, then go with 'A Charlton Standard Catalogue: Canadian Coins (65th edition)' as well as a copy of Canadian Coin News. Canadian Coin News is a newspaper about numismatics published by-weekly that features a column called 'Trends' where the prices for every single circulating Canadian coin in most possible grades are presented. This newspaper can be purchased from local coin dealers, or through Canadian Coin News' website.
I hope this helps, and I hope yuo quickly realize what a fantastic hobby coin collecting is :)
Another couple good references are Coins of Canada {Haxby and Willey}, from Unitrade Press, and a less-involved {more of a quick reference guide} Canadian Coins-Tokens and Paper Money {Gandley}, from Canadian Wholesale Supply.
Get a book that helps you learn a few important things. How to grade coins, how to store them, and how to identify varieties. Then, and only then, should you start buying coins for your collection. Have fun... it is!
