I bought this and 35 other coins/Tokens at a Garage sale and I am wondering if it holds any value. I think something has been scratched off on the reverse. Does the Clip help in value?
Thank you
James

Well, this is not a coin, at least not a Mint issue. Note the absence of the shield on the reverse between the two branches. The shield was added to regular issues starting in 1860. Perhaps a better forum to get better answers would be in one of the US Coin forums.
Since you think there was some "removal" on the reverse, I wonder if it was the word "NOT", thus someone trying to use a token as a real '63 Indian cent. That would be likely, as a '63 real cent has some decent value over a token. {Most likely, I can't say for sure about a token like this being less valuable to a collector}.

This is a relatively common Civil War token. Neither the clip, nor the Cud by the date, help or hurt the value. However, the scratching out of NOT does hurt the value. This token would normally retail in the $15-18 range, but the damage makes it maybe a $5 item. On the other hand, were it marketed by some astute, ebay seller as having been wounded at Gettysburg, the perceived value could well soar!

Thank you for the answers. I think I'll hold on to it, after all I wasn't at Gettysburg to see it get wounded :)
