Nice find! Where were you hunting? I did some panning in northern California in 1982 and found a few nice flakes but that was it. It is real easy to understand how folks get gold fever, even from the experience of finding small quantities. The next time I plan to use a sluice box,let the panning to stronger, younger backs!

Wow great find, great new hobby eh. I am gonna guess for fun. It looks a bit thicker than a flake, a true nugget. How about a half gram, regardless of weight great find for first time out. Now go find 1000 more to go with it, good luck!

I have went panning near the gold mines in NC when I was younger, never found anything but a few people I was with found a few small nuggets and I got the fever just seeing them pull gold out of the sand. So I can understand how those old timers got the gold fever back in the day also, I couldn't imagine if I had found something. I would have probably set up camp there and just lived off the land for a few years while I panned all day and slept all night

Congrats on your first nugget. That's a nice little picker!

I haven't done any prospecting in a long time, but I remember how exciting it is when you get into some good paydirt!
