If I recall correctly it uses the magnets that detect the docking stations and holsters.

anyone interested in getting together to fund the development of a coin collecting app? I know a company that develops apps for all types of phones and could get "mates rates" on the development. I have been looking for awhile for an app and have thought about getting one written but wouldn't fund it all myself... who knows? maybe it will sell like wild fire and make a fortune...

Potentially. Are you talking about a collection of $10/person or $100/person?
I think it would be interesting to advocate this to Collectorz.com. They have some awesome apps to begin with. Maybe we could ask them to strip down their systems and make something coin oriented.

I use the pdf spredsheet on my droid as well. I also used my camera to take picture of the Red Book and some other publications of the things I collect so it's real easy to refer back to my notes (my Red Book looks like a college text book with stick notes and highlighter marks every where.) I've toyed with the idea of creating my own app, but the truth is, I'm lazy!! lol

Steve, I will be getting around to a mobile app version of myCoinDB at some point in the future. The first version will be an iPhone/iPad app but it's likely a few months away as the web version is still in active development.

Yes I had been thinking about this very topic and found something excellent recently. I did a full review of it here in this thread that I started. https://goccf.com/t/91138

There is a real good grading app for iPhone. Its called PCGS Photograde, in the lifestyle category.
It has pictures for every grade on every type coin. Free as well!

Hi guys, I'm interested in the possiblity of developing a coin collecting app.
What would be your wishlist for features if money was no object? Would it combine and enhance existing apps for example...or do somethng completely different?

Obviously, having as much coins as possible is the best feature. Apart from that, consider the grading, the current price of each coin, the rarity of each coin and a very cool idea would be if it has the ability to notify you in case it has data about a coin you are interested in.

For iphone I have "Quarters" and "iCoin$" Neither are great but seeing them on my phone provides the constant reminder to double check my change. Still prefer using spreadsheets though.

I have been using TreasureBox on my iPhone to keep track of my collection and like it a lot. I hope that helps.

Has there been any developments with regards to an iphone coin app?
You could use iPhone app called TurboScan to photograph your coins - the app makes PDF files. Its a quick and easy way to get a digital snapshot of your coins if you like PDF. I'm considering doing this for my collection.... for now.
