Did I miss something important in the Intercept Shield coin album story? I search and search the internet, but can't find out a few simple solutions: 1) Lincoln Cents 1909 to 2007. Okay, where am I supposed to put 2008 to present? I don't see any new books forthcoming. 2) Kennedy half dollar "2002 to Date" only goes to 2011. The pages are on posts allowing for additional pages, so why can't I find a new page? 3) Sacagawea dollars, same thing. The album is built with posts for additional pages. It ends with 2011. Why aren't there additional pages available? If I'm missing something here, please help. Otherwise, I'm left to wonder if this company is in trouble, or are they just bad at customer service? |

Oh, no, not true. I have about an equal number of each brand of albums. Dansco is pretty good about releasing additional pages or starting new albums. And, Dansco provides blank pages of most coin sizes as well. My only complaint about Dansco is the Euro coin album... new Euro countries, but no new pages for them, AND no blank pages. Compare that to Intercept Shield... the Lincoln Cent book filled up six years ago, and nothing to follow up with? Worse yet, they didn't wake up in 2008 and realize they had no continuation plan. It surely must have occurred to someone 8 to 10 years ago that their book would soon be running out. Or am I missing something that's out there? |

Somewhere, somebody is making economic decisions about the viability of creating new pages, and coming up short of your expectations. This doesn't mean I disagree with you; just trying to explore their thinking. I'm not a collector in this space, nor a fan of Intercept Shield, so I have to ask the question: Have enough additional Lincolns been issued to fill a new page? Or the other issues? That might be the consideration - no new pages until it's filled so the customer doesn't have to buy "replacement" pages for existing ones. |

Interesting, you came up with a slightly different web page for the company than I did, even though I used the same URL. The one I saw had a company address in Raritan, NJ, and the "Contact Us" link was not working. I will try again to contact them.
Just clarifying... I initially read your second comment as saying the Intercept Shields were up to date. Sorry about that. You did use the earlier quote to make your point that you were discussing the Dansco albums. Not sure off the top of my head if 7070 is the Euro book, but basically we are in agreement.

Quite unlike Dansco which enjoys the widespread acceptance to afford to put it all out there. |

They have been revamping it for the last few years, but have yet to release the updated version and the previous version is impossible to find. There are a lot of people waiting for them to start making it again. |

I am not sure if Eprotect (manufacturer of Intercept Shield) is in business anymore as I cannot find any valid business contact information on them. Therefore, I am skeptical if the Intercept Shield line of products are even under any form of production anymore. Engineered Materials, Inc. was (exclusively) licensing their technology to Intercept Preservation Products (Eprotect Preservation Inc). In 2009, there was a legal fallout between the two that went to arbitration. Eprotect also tried to take the litigation to court, where EMI's motions were pretty much sustained with only a few motions stayed pending the outcome of arbitration. Since it was arbitrated, the documents are not "public" and so it's hard to tell exactly what had occurred. However, EMI appears to be in complete control of the Intercept Technology trademarks and has a number of licensees worldwide. I have not found Eprotect on their list of licensees. Since Intercept Shield was a trademarked product of Eprotect (IPP), I doubt that we will see a product under that name continued to be manufactured if Eprotect has indeed lost license to the technology and is no longer a functioning entity. EMI's product line does not appear to currently include any numismatic related products, but that is not to say that they may not in the near future decide to service the numismatic community with a product comparable to Intercept Shield. And, as jbuck suggested, I tried to contact them with my questions, and have not gotten any reply. So, I'm guessing whatever is on the shelves is all we're ever going to see. I picked up a second Kennedy album (2003-Present) on the cheap on ebay, removed the pages, turned them over so they look like blank pages, and put them in my own Kennedy album. Therefore, I'm set for another 10 years with that book. I can do the same with the Sacagawea if/when the mood strikes me. Can't really do anything with the Lincoln cents, as that book is not built with posts and removable pages. Too bad it ended in 2007 and not 2008. If it had ended with 2008, I could at least see that book as a complete set of wheats and memorials. |

I do not have room for a ninth page in that binder, so I cannot add a page without replacing it. Would have been nice if there were three fewer 1982 varieties to make the last page end with 2008. All of my modern albums are full of pages without room to add. What I did was create an ultra-modern Dansco album with blank cent, nickel, and dime pages. I find the first cent page interesting since it shows the Memorial (2008), Bicentennial (2009), and Shield (2010+) transition. |
