I'm getting up a group of coins to send to NGC for grading (thanks to the five freebee coupon for renewing my membership)and would like everyone's opinion on the 1923-S SLQ. The date is weak but readable (my photo doesn't seem to give it its just due) and the devices are great. I'm hoping for a VF even with the weak date. Observations will be greatly appreciated. It's a tough call, I'd put it at F-12, but a definite grade would be hard without having it in hand. Might be the lighting, but it looks very likely to have been cleaned.

That's an interesting coin. The obverse appears to have VF details, reverse looks closer to F. And the date is incredibly weak! I'm with rjkingston - the coin appears to have been cleaned in these photos. Not sure if it's just the picture or not though.
Rest in Peace

Hi Paleo. Unfortunately the TPGs nowadays are extremely tough on grading coins with weak dates. If there is only one digit visible, I would be surprised if it graded higher than VG these days, although I agree that it has around VF-20 details. Several years ago you might have been able to get an F-15.

Thanks for your inputs. I think I'll just give her a good home in my SLQ Dansco and hope she gets to meet her sweet-sixteen sister some day.
