quote: "Basically the back of the coin was struck with the reverse of a 10 cent coin creating a mule."

- if that was correct, it'd be an alu-bronze 10-cent, which would be a very interesting piece.
This however is the much more common $1-planchet, $1-reverse, 10-cent-obverse mule.
8 hours to go: 5 bids, AUD $305.00.

makes me want to rush out and noodle a few dollars ...

I understand that the number are no more than 6000 and probably a lot less. I tell people they are valued at $400 in (nearly) any condition. Quality coins can go as high as $3,000 to $4,000. The above example is not a great coin. Its buy it now is a fraction high. One thing to look for is a well centred strike.

P.S. They are not ultra rare. The 2005 proof mule is, with a mintage of 40 or less.

PCGS have just begun to slab these. It will be interesting to see when these sell what prices they go for with a real grade on the slab. Like Yass says they usually go for around $400-500 odd (I haven't checked for a while) for circulated coins which could be fine-EF with an UNC mule I know of fetching 8k.
