A coworker recently acquired this and after looking at it closely, we couldnt decide if this was struck or cast. I didnt think ancient were cast and it appears as if there are cast marks on the edges and some of the surfaces. Also supposedly this coin is supposed to be a silver and gold mix, and it appears there is copper in spots on it. I am very unfamiliar with ancients overall, so I told my coworker I would post it here for the Experts to look at. This was tricky to photograph and I hope I have adequate photos for you to judge. Thank you.

This is the info that came with the coin.

I don't see any obvious signs of casting in those pics; if it's cast, it's a better-than-usual job. I can see a few odd bumps and spots, but I can't tell if they're casting bubbles or merely dirt or corrosion.

Here are the zeno.ru pages for these coins. this one, in particular, is the same type as yours and has some interesting discussion which mentions the existence of cheap brass cast replicas of these coins; unfortunately the link pointing to pics of examples of them is broken.

I'm unfamiliar with this particular coin series but I imagine an easy way to detect them is by weight; a genuine coin should weigh 7 to 8 grams; the coin in the second link above weighs 6.7 grams but is heavily worn; yours is not worn so should hit the specified range.

Have a look at the 'VCOINS' website in the search function, and check yours against those that are for sale. You should get a good idea of what your coin, may be valued at, and provide a visual comparison to check your coin for genuineness.

I have noted that a few of these coins have come to market recently, and I would like to know of their origin: what district they came from, hoard information, find site etc.
