I stumbled across this 1956D Nickel. There is a "relief" oddity on the reverse just to the left of the Monticello entrance. Though the picture is not as good as I would like it to be (still trying to take a better one), with a loupe I have been able to verify that it is definitely relief and in the shape of a near perfect circle or doughnut. It really looks like a clear letter "O." Oddly...in the center of the circle, it almost looks like a dollar sign (wouldn't THAT be a lovely omen) but surely, that is just a coincidence of dirt and shadow.

Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks!

PMD I'd say, are you saying it somewhat protrudes from the surface?

I am not real coin-savvy....I had to look up PMD (hoping it was "pretty magnificent discovery").

Yes...it does protrude from the surface (I thought that was what relief was)...I was thinking that meant it had to have happened in minting....no?
