If you can show a picture we can have a better idea. Laxmaster good guess . But It could not be a P ( at least by the Us Mint ) for that series. the P was not on any Lincoln's Still till today , it is Most likely a D w/ Maybe a Cud attached or some sort of moved metal etc. In My Opinion Report this Post to the Staff

You are correct my friend war time " Nickels " not Pennies I believe that was the first time the P was ever on coinage up untill recent times . with the exception of the Lincoln Penny , which Still does not place a P for Philly on it. of course I could always be wrong AS WELL my friend.. just carl Bedrock of the Community United States 20753 Posts	Posted 10/27/2006 12:43 pm Could have been secretly minted in the Mints Basement. Then they secretly placed the B there to indicate that. Check it out with a strong magnifier. There were a few doubled D mint marks, RPM's and or other possible errors made back then. Most likely it is just the D worn smooth or damaged.
